….and an argument against stupid taxes.

In 1696 some clever clog decided to tax windows. You had to pay an extra tax for each window in your home.

How did the great British public respond? It bricked up an awful lot of the windows. So they lived in darkness and not very much tax was raised.

It only took 156 years to repeal the tax but even now you can see lots of blocked windows.

If I’d been in the exchequer I would not have taxed Windows; I’d have taxed bricks. Would have been  much more successful.
