It sits on St Andrews Hill at the head of a 21st century development, unbending towards, nor caring about, the preprosterous tail of modernity that sways behind it down to the river.
It’s a cracking little back street boozer, still part of the old Carter Lane community and with a real history. This version of the pub dates back to 1787 but a previous inn played host to William Shakespeare a couple of hundred years before.
I don’t know about you but I’m getting thirsty just looking through those doors.
