I took the Northern line up to Islington to see a couple of Northern girls sing and (occasionally) clog dance: The Unthanks.

The old chapel sounded wonderful as did the band.

They are one of my favourite groups of musicians, their music is perfect for wintry evenings and it’s spirituality works wonderfully in a chapel.

Importantly, they are also very funny people and half the pleasure of an Unthanks show is the chat between the songs which comes like sunshine breaking through the rain.
